Have you ever heard that saying – “Can’t see the forest for the trees” ? I have often been in this predicament – where you get bogged down in the details and you have no idea of the bigger picture.

The concept of “losing your voice” or “not listening to your Inner Voice“ and “not speaking your truth” was not lost on me when I was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer during one of the most difficult points in my life a few years back.

Moments of clarity often arrive – unannounced, unexpected, and unexplained. But when they do arrive – you know you’ve reached a pivotal point – a definite surge of energy in the direction of your true story – the life you are meant to be living.

The true joy and essence of being a human on this earth is the ability to experience connections. A connection with a loved one, a connection with a new born baby…

Up until recently, I thought I was being brave – stepping outside my comfort zone – conquering my fears. After all I was “showing up” more and more in my everyday life and slowly but surely revealing the true me to those around me. Not quite Wonder Woman status – but on my way to earning that gold tiara and wrist cuffs – with the invisible helicopter not too far into the future.

I’ve been resting up and listening to my body of late as I am still fighting off a nasty cold. So instead of plotting out my next post, I have been on a meandering of sorts…

More and more I am finding myself in purge mode – I am decluttering physically and mentally – and boy is it a bumpy ride full of some interesting – hard learnt lessons.

I’m on a journey

This one is different

Where am I headed?

Today – this day twelve months ago, I awoke from a marathon 5 surgeries.

Surgeries that were a necessary event to get through to the other side. The other side of what?

I’m on a quest.

In fact I’ve always been on a quest – I just didn’t realise it until a few short whiles ago.

An awakening has happened – I am in pursuit – of shadows and things hidden away in them. 

I’m not denying that I inherited most of my values and belief systems as a child, from my parents. And as I entered into adolescence I discarded many of these 

I’ve had many defining moments along this journey of life. And many of those moments included some incredibly memorable conversations. Conversations that stick with you and help you view your world from a different perspective. One such conversation happened many years ago with a close friend while I was chewing her ear off about how much I felt disillusioned by my career and how things just seemed to be so far from where I thought they would be.

I am considering this point in time my “do-over.”

I am redesigning my life to align more with my own true self.

This time around I desire more Freedom.

I’m the first one to admit that self love is not my strong point. It’s an area that I am dedicating myself to in my Year Of Living Dangerously. It has taken me a lot of time to work on quietening my inner nasty voice (always a work in progress). Some days she wins, some days she doesn’t. But each day begins with the intention of gentle non-nastiness.

Judging yourself is nasty business.

Judging yourself as a measure against others is even nastier business.

After all

Comparison is a Killer.

Comparing yourself to others is a guarantee that you will kill off – self love,

self awareness,

positive motivation,

listening to your intuition,

authenticity,

following your purpose,

and being grateful for everything that you already have

In the past (almost 12) months life has changed drastically. By leaving mainstream employment, I have opened myself up to

freedom, creativity and joy.

But along with these glorious goodies have come

self doubt,

and at times,

motivational stagnation.

Yesterday I got lost in the moment. 

And there were many many moments.

Ground. Breaking. News!

You already know everything you need to know.

You know how to do it, be it, live it, breathe it.

You have everything you need inside you.

The “Attitude of Gratitude” is not a shiny new concept.

The fact that

The Key to Happiness is to be found in being Grateful for what you already have,

has been endorsed in one way or another by many including Buddha, Eckhart Tolle, and Oprah Winfrey to name but a few.

For the first time in a long time, I gave myself a wonderful gift.

Don’t get me wrong – I am no stranger to retail therapy and attempting to make things better with a new handbag/pair of earrings/lipstick/shoes (the list is endless and so are my collections of stuff).

But I am talking about a gift with soul.

The countdown is done. We have officially L A U N C H E D! I’ve high-fived myself several times, done a mini victory lap around my computer, popped the champagne, and sat down to reflect on the past 9 months. That’s right 9 months it has taken me to create, nurture and grow this space. The significance of the 9 months is not lost on me. I am happy to say that there has been no morning sickness, no weird…
